Step 1. Click top button ( power button ) and volume up button at the same time
Step 2. Release both the button quickly.

you are using model like iPad / iPad Air/ iPad mini which has home button or touch ID. Here the procedure to take screenshot is different than the iPad pro. This is the usual method used on majority of the devices across the brands.
